It was 1992, a little more than a year since the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo buried the entirety of the region in tons of ash fall, effectively destroying the US military bases stationed in the region. With the renewal of the 1947 US-Philippines Military Bases Agreement rejected by the Philippine Senate of the time, the American forces were finally poised to leave the area - after almost a century of occupation.

Nothing but the people's Christian Faith tenacity and belief in their leader's vision combined with selfless passion and volunteerism made this Freeport very successful.

Subic Bay, literally a Phoenix that rose from the ashes. Stricken by two disasters the eruption of Mount Pinatubo which made Subic seem like a wasteland and at the same time closure of the American Naval Base affecting the livelihood of the people of Olongapo. Subic and Olongapo made the impossible irreversibly transforming itself into the first Freeport in the Philippines. Attracting investors worldwide, Subic is now the land of promises.
