Gov’t holds fuel marking simulation in Subic
Posted 5 years ago
Government agencies last week conducted a simulation of the fuel marking and testing process in Subic, Zambales.
In an emailed statement on Tuesday, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said that along with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and its head agency Department of Finance (DOF), it conducted the simulation at the Port of Subic
on July 25.
“The simulation aims to identify possible gaps and areas for improvement in the process,” said the BOC.
The fuel marking process starts with the doping of markers from the compartments of the truck, followed by a five-minute sample field testing.
The fuel marking system was announced by the government in 2017, in efforts to address oil smuggling into the country.
For its part, the Philippine Institute of Petroleum (PIP) has expressed support to the program.
“As early as last year, our members have been working closely with the Department of Finance (DOF) to ensure the program’s proper and effective implementation. We support the government’s efforts to curb smuggling which continues to undermine the industry and the government in general,” it said.
Members of the PIP include Chevron Philippines Inc., Isla LPG Corporation, Petron Corporation, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, PTT Philippines Corporation, and Total Philippines Corporation.
