BOC collection at Clark port beats August target, but a miss for Subic port

Revenue collection by the Bureau of Customs for the month of August at the Port of Clark breached its target by 13.1 percent, while Subic port missed to do so.

The bureau said in a statement on Tuesday that preliminary data from its Financial Service show collection at the Port of Clark amounted to P147 million, while Subic port collection amounted to P1.478 billion.

The BOC Port of Clark, however, announced on its Facebook page that its collection last month amounted to more than P156 million, which is 20 percent higher than its target of P130 million.

It is also higher by 17.49 percent compared to its actual collection in August 2017.

The bureau, in its statement, said that in total, all 17 collection districts were able to raise P51.739 billion for the month, breaching the collection target of P49.31 billion.

The total August collection is higher by 35.1 percent from the P38.289 billion collected in the same period last year, but lower than the July 2018 collection of P52.144 billion.

To include all collections from January this year, the bureau has so far raised P384.3 billion, up by 4 percent against the P283.56 billion collected during the same period last year.

In its statement, the agency said that its “Financial Service cites the bureau’s consistent high revenue performance to the higher exchange rate, increased oil price in the market, proper valuation and strong enforcement and revenue enhancing measures.”

“In addition, the one-strike policy of (Commissioner Isidro Lapena) motivated the ports to constantly hit their targets,” it added.

The BOC Port of Clark, meanwhile, shared it has installed an additional fixed X-ray machine for check-in baggages.

“This will allow the X-ray Inspection Project Team to scan more baggages and those marked by the x-ray machine (as) suspected to contain contraband and taxable items,” it said.

In a related development, Port of Clark District Collector Lilibeth Sandag was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by Lapena for the prevention of entry and successful apprehension of a total of 30.7 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) worth P208.76 million last June.
