MORONG, Bataan — A wounded Risso’s dolphin was rescued in a private beach in this town early Thursday morning.
The management of La Playa Beach Resort reported to authorities the sighting of the wounded dolphin in a cove, prompting government response.
Authorities, among them experts from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and representatives of the provincial government of Bataan, immediately took action to save the 6-foot dolphin.
Marine wildlife experts initially suggested that the wounds of the dolphin were probably caused by both a shark bite and a spear gun.
Bataan information officer Angel Ortiz Luis said the wounded mammal will be transported to Ocean Adventure in Subic, Zambales for treatment.
Upon learning of the incident, Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia issued an instruction to ensure the safety and survival of the dolphin.
