AARHUS, Denmark – The Philippine Robotics National Team bagged the gold medal award in the World Robot Olympiad Friendship Invitational (WROFIT) 2019 held here from August 1 to 4.
The delegation represented by Team NOUVUS from Dr. Yanga’s College Inc., (DYCI Bocaue, Bulacan) won gold in the competition’s Smart Cities project presentation in the Open Category–Smart Governance Theme.
The team’s work called Project ’ALAB’ (Anti-Adversity Link for Aid and Benefits) bested 149 teams from 32 countries (ages 16 to 19 years old).
Team members include Doneth Dela Rama, Naiah Mendoza and Jaren Perez. They were led by head coach Mr. Beryl Jhan Cruz and assistant coach Ms. Anne Raz.
Project ’ALAB’ is an efficient, innovative and organized way of providing aid in addressing natural and man-made calamities all over the world through smart governance technology.

Meanwhile, Team Nexus from Livingstone International School Angeles, Pampanga landed 4th place in Smart Cities Junior High Open Category (ages 13 to 15 years old).
Their project C.I.U.D.A.D (City of Urban Discoveries and Development) aims to provide solution to every cities obstacles such as air and water pollutions and renewable energy.
The team is composed of Krischell Anne Faust, Amelia Felize Fernandez and Paolo Palanisamy. They were lead by coach Mr. Michael John De Guzman Cunanan.

Ms. Mylene Abiva, President / CEO of FELTA Multi-Media Inc., led the Philippine delegation and was also selected as a head judge for Open Category during the event.
”The complexity, technology has evolved. Meron na po tayong Artificial Intelligence, drive-less school buses done by early learners. Even at the age of 9, 10 or 11 year old, nakukuha na nila ‘yung concept of Science with regards to adapting technology in our everyday life,” she said.
The annual WRO gathers young people around the world to encourage them to learn and master new skills in the robotics technology while having fun.
The Philippine Robotics National Team is set to compete at the WRO International Final at Gy?r in Hungary from Nov. 8 to 10, 2019.
