The New Clark International Airport Illustration shows how the Mt. Arayat, Mt. Pinatubo terrain, and Sierra Madre, the biggest mountain range in the country, serves as inspiration of the wavy silhouette of the new Clark International Airport terminal 2.
The airport is expected to be a tourism hub in the future, as they’ve put a lot of effort to show some design inspired by well-known mountains of the Philippines. They will be introducing Modern Filipino architecture care of BUDJI+ROYAL Architecture+Design.
The Exterior
In a post published by bluprint.onemega.com, the airport’s vibe will be using a warm and tropical tone. Its roofline will have the same features as the surrounding mountain’s outlines of Mt. Arayat, Mt. Pinatubo, and the Zambales Mountain Range. They will make use of metal and glue-laminated timber called “glulam.”

“They reflect the organic shape of the mountains. The different heights lend the feeling of dynamism and blending with the landscape. When you enter the space, you are in awe,” Layug shares.

Internationally renowned interior designer Layug is known for creating furniture made from bamboo. His vision for the interiors and structure will mainly feature sustainable materials like the glulam that will add to that tropical feeling and achieve the naturalness of the material.

The Interior
Expect to be wowed by the tropical interior of the airport. It’s terminal ceiling will be an interpretation of parol and capiz grids, strengthening local cultural identity which represents one of Pampanga’s famous cultural symbols.
Compare to elegant terminals, the latest Clark airport will be focusing on the Filipino feeling and creativity – from the warmth of wood and locally-sourced materials. As a matter of fact, they will also make use of lahar, as an ode to the Filipinos’ resiliency from the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in June 1991.
The State-Of-The-Art Architecture
The said designers are creating a state-of-the-art and modern Filipino standard for architecture. They aim to produce distinct Filipino designs which would us authentic, and that it can be shared with the world.
The newest terminal will be covering 101,977 square meters for its Phase 1 with an estimated capacity of eight million passengers per annum, according to a report by BluPrint.
